Case Study: How My Student Made $14k in 3 Weeks While Spending Only $349 on Ads

Ever since I wrapped up my Amplify Your list Workshop a few weeks ago, my students have been reaching out to share their wins and results with me and it’s been incredible to see what they’ve been able to accomplish running ads at just $10 or $15/day.

  • Davina got 50 new leads for her breathwork guide and one purchase of her upsell after only 48 hours of launching her ads

  • Marina is getting new leads for her masterclass for £0.96/lead in the B2B space 

  • Taylor spent $349 on her ads and added over 200 email subscribers to her list AND got two clients for $3k and $11k each

While these are all impressive results, I want to specifically dive deeper into why my student Taylor (screenshot above from our DM convo) has been so successful. 

First off, she used the exact strategy I taught inside my workshop:

Run ads to a lead magnet that’s designed to qualify and solve a problem for your ideal customer and then point them to a call to action to take the next step with you.

In her case, the next step was to schedule a call where the goal of the call was to get leads to book a retreat at her retreat center. 

This is what worked for her, but this is also a strategy that hundreds of my clients use to sell anything from their courses, to memberships, to group coaching, and even high-cost physical products. 

The lead magnet she promoted in her ads was called “The Ultimate Quilt Retreat Planning Guide”. 

This was the perfect lead magnet to qualify her audience because unless you are considering planning a quilting retreat, there’s no reason you would click and download this guide. 

This the key to using a freebie in your ads – it needs to be something that ONLY your ideal customer who is looking for your solution would be interested in.

This ensures that your ads are attracting the right people and repelling the wrong ones. 

The other thing I believe gave her a huge advantage was how niche her guide and offer was.

While she could host other groups of people at her retreat center and target those people with ads, by focusing on a highly-specific market (quilters only) it immediately creates a blue ocean where her audience now sees her location as the best and only option for a retreat. 

I always hear the assumption from other people that targeting a super niche audience with ads won’t work that well because they think it'll limit the amount of people that they can reach. 

But I’ve seen quite the opposite to be true. The saying “the riches are in the niches” not only applies in business, but it applies to ads as well. 

Because of this, 3 weeks later and spending less than $20/day on ads, Taylor has increased her website traffic by 110%, added 200+ new qualified leads to her email list and booked 2 new retreat clients for a total of $14k in sales.

The best part?

She knows from past experience that the average lead time to get someone onto her email list and then book a retreat is around 2 months.

This means that even if she stopped running her ads (which she doesn’t plan to do), she still has 198+ new leads that can be sold to and will likely convert into sales in the next 60 days. 

And this is just the beginning! 

THE TAKEAWAY

Now that you know the BTS of her results and success, how can you apply this to your own business?

I recommend taking a minute to analyze any lead magnets that you’ve created and thinking through the following questions: 

  • Is this lead magnet designed to attract my perfect ideal customer or could it also appeal to people outside of my market? 

  • Does this lead magnet qualify the people signing up to ensure that they aren’t just looking for free value, but also the paid solution that I offer?

  • Is it clear what the next step is after someone signs up? Whether that’s making a purchase, booking a call, joining a waitlist, etc. 

Once you've done this and you know you have the right freebie to attract your ideal client, the next step is to get your list-building ads set up to promote it.

Remember, anyone can run ads to generate leads for their business.

But attracting the RIGHT leads that are actively searching for your solution is what will ultimately lead to more sales and clients at the end of the day.
