The Mindset You Need to Succeed with Ads

Have you ever had one of those weeks where you feel like all the resistance is coming up against you? 

That’s how I’ve felt this week at times.

Especially when it came to writing my newsletter.

Earlier this week my laptop and my partner's laptop broke. They’re both currently being repaired and should be fixed soon but the timing of the situation was less than ideal . 

On top of that, we’ve had guests in town staying with us this week and while I love to host, it always makes it harder to focus and get work done when we have visitors now that I’m back to working from a home office again. 

Then to add to all of this, yesterday as I attempted to finish writing my newsletter my wifi randomly went down and was down for most of the afternoon.

And because my laptop was broken and I only had my iMac, I couldn’t exactly head to a coffee shop or elsewhere to get my work done.

All of this felt like a sign from the universe that I should just skip the newsletter entirely. 

As I reflected on the events of the week, I realized that it’s my “I’ll figure it out no matter what” mentality that has contributed to a lot of my success in business and as a marketer. 

And when I think about my clients who have been the most successful with ads versus the ones who tried them once or twice but gave up — the key to their success was having this same no excuses mentality. 

Because the truth is, I can dish about the best ad strategies and tactics that are working right now to grow your business, but ultimately it’s your mindset that will play the biggest role in your success.

I see many people jump into Meta ads expecting overnight results—quick conversions, a flood of leads, or an explosive boost in sales. 

And why not? The stories of overnight success are practically flooded throughout our newsfeeds. 

But behind every one of those stories is a journey of testing, trying, failing, and trying again that we often don’t get to see. 

Marketing rarely works perfectly right out of the gate. 

It’s a game of persistence. 

And my most successful clients aren’t necessarily the ones who had the biggest budget or following, or the very best offer. 

They are the ones who had a strong mindset—a “I’ll do whatever it takes to figure it out” attitude.

Here’s some of the specific things that they do differently:

  • Strategize Thoughtfully: Every action in their marketing is backed by a strategy and research tailored to their audience.

  • Test Relentlessly: Every failure is a step closer to success. They are willing to test different ads, strategies, and messaging to see what really resonates.

  • Analyze Ruthlessly: They look at every piece of data as a gold mine. Understanding what the metrics are saying helps in making informed decisions and tweaks for the future. 

  • Adapt Continuously: They aren’t scared to pivot. If something doesn’t work, they find out why and how they can change it, and then they immediately make a change. 

  • Try, Try Again: Giving up isn't an option. They know the value of what ads can do to help grow their business on autopilot and are willing to try new strategies until they find something that works.

So, if you’re wanting to use ads to grow and scale your business, ask yourself: Are you willing to do whatever it takes? 

Are you prepared to make no excuses and adopt a winning mindset geared towards relentless improvement and determination to succeed?

As I write this post, I’m in the process of helping a client plan her 5th course launch with ads where her goal is to make $3 million in sales.

I’m 100% confident that we’ll hit this goal but it’s only because we’ve taken the time to dial in her strategy over the years, continually analyze the data, and fix the things that weren’t working that I know we’ll succeed.

So I hope this blog post inspires you to keep going even if you’ve tried ads before or hired an agency and didn’t see results the first time.
